W2: Dear past self...

Yeo Ya Qi (1901604)

Self-doubt and emotional insecurity are just part of youth.

(Anonymous, 2014)

Dear past self,

You are such a happy-go-lucky person. You live nonchalantly, believing that any obstacles that come across will be resolved in no time.

What an ideal life it is when everything that you are involved in is going in the direction where you wish it would be.

However, remarkable grades, loving parents, carefree life, and all the sunshine and rainbows trapped you in your comfort zone.

Once you are out of your comfort zone, you felt lost and miserable because you find it hard to fit in.

Soon as you realize it, you start to question your life, your identity, your self-worth, and your target.

Do you have a target?

Who are you without everything you have now?

This is the moment where you realize that all you need to do is to step out of that zone and find your true self.

I am glad that you followed your heart to take baby steps towards self-improvement and self-discovery by joining extracurricular activities.

Exposure to life experiences slowly changed your personality.

You are much more courageous and open-minded.

Back then you find it hard to express yourself, but now you are bold enough to speak up for yourself.

With the influence and support of your friends, you join the student exchange program and plan to study abroad.

Although you are going through a few minor mishaps, you got yourself into the national selection camp.

Here, you encounter a bunch of talented people in the camp. You admire their confidence, their aura, and the way they perceive things.

You never felt so eager to blend in, to become a person like them, so strong, confident and bright.

Although you are not making it to the finalist to study abroad, your motivation to become the best version of yourself has raised to an unprecedented height.

"It’s never too late to be what you might have been."

With the new mindset, you live a hope-filled life every day. You handle your problems as opportunities
in a different and more effective manner.

There are still going to be hard and difficult times. But I just want to tell you that, although the best is yet to come, enjoy all the things you’re doing now.

Although you are still far from the ideal person you hope to be, try to appreciate the little improvements in you and be proud of yourself.

Just keep your own pace, knowing that failure makes you stronger, so do not be intimidated by the upcoming challenges in life.

C’est La Vie!

Love,

Ya Qi
